Reflexology

It is believed in ancient China, that the bottoms of the feet can be divided into 25 parts, each representing different parts of the body. The modern theories of reflexology deal with the principle that there are 'reflex areas' in the feet and hands that correspond to all the glands, organs, and parts of the body. By massaging these reflex areas, one can relieve stress and tension, and to also help naturally achieve homeostasis (internal equilibrium). Reflexology is a complex system that identifies and addresses the mass of 7,000 nerve endings that are contained in the foot, and based upon these nerve endings, reflexologists work from maps of predefined pressure points that are located on the hands and feet. The Mirror of the Body

The foot, as a mirror of the body, reflects any disturbances in the body's equilibrium. The feet also act as self-tuners for the rest of the body. Movements of the feet stimulate the whole system. Unfortunately because of shoes and other foot wear (and resulting lack of this stimulation), the feet are frustrated in their attempts to do their job. Reflexology re-tunes the system by applying alternating pressure on all parts of the feet. This has a corresponding effect on the zones throughout the body. A constant, direct pressure, however, has an analgesic effect within the body. The interplay between the body and its parts is a most beautiful, complex process. The relationship between the feet and the rest of the body obviously involves a number of factors. Blockages of the zones and general foot problems now appear to have far reaching and predicable impacts on total body health. The feet paint a 'picture' of a person's health, as a key into the body's systems. Reflexology is thereby a method for stimulating the reflexes in the feet (and hands) to cause reactions in corresponding parts of the body. The reaction could be best described as relaxation, or a return to equilibrium.
